DIDSBURY, Alta. — Didsbury RCMP say a 57-year-old local man has been charged following an investigation into a home invasion reported May 21, 2026.
Police responded at approximately 7:37 p.m. after a masked man armed with a knife entered a residence. According to the RCMP, the intruder demanded money and the occupant’s phone, threatened her with bodily harm and fled on foot.
Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspect. Investigators recovered an item of clothing nearby and submitted it for DNA analysis, which police say helped identify a suspect.
RCMP arrested Benjamin Douglas, 57, of Didsbury, at a residence in the community on November 3.
Douglas faces charges of robbery, breaking and entering a dwelling, disguise with intent to commit an offence, uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The allegations have not been proven in court.
Following a judicial interim release hearing, police said Douglas was remanded in custody and scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on November 4, 2026.
