The man being held in connection with the death of 28 year old Elzeare Cardinal has has his court date adjourned to March 20th, where proceedings will move to the Court house on the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation.
33-year-old Dalton Earl Cardinal has been charged with Second Degree Homicide that took place last Friday, February 7th.
Mayerthorpe RCMP had responded to a residence on the Alexis after receiving a 911 call that reported a stabbing. Upon arrival, police discovered that the man has succumbed to his wounds and was deceased. As per protocol in such events, the Major Crimes unit took over the investigation and with the assistance of the Parkland Dog Service Unit as well as the Forensics Identification Section from the Edson detachment, the suspect was apprehended and charged in the death of Elzeare Cardinal.
Cardinal is accused in a stabbing at an Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation residence that left one person dead, with the Mayerthorpe RCMP responding on Friday, Feb. 7.
A brief hearing took place Thursday in the Mayerthorpe Courthouse. An agent for Attorney Gary Smith requested a one month adjournment for disclosure and to allow for lawyers to better understand the events that took place and evidence.
The hearing was presided over by Justice Charles D. Gardner who instructed that the case be adjourned until March 20th where it will proceed at the Alexis Courthouse.
“This should go back to Alexis,” Justice Charles D. Gardner said.
Dalton Earl Cardinal is being held in custody and is charged with second degree murder.
