2 Charged with Attempted Murder After Shooting on Paul Band First Nation

A man on the Paul Band had to be air lifted to hospital in Edmonton after being shot Tuesday morning.

More details have come to light regarding the RCMP’s emergency response Tuesday on the Paul First Nation.   Just after 9 am Parkland RCMP had received a 911 call reporting a shooting on the First Nation and upon arrival discovered a 41 year old male with serious injuries as well as 46 year man with less severe injuries.

The event triggered a major response from RCMP units including the RCMP helicopter, the Parkland RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), the Parkland RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), the Central Alberta District CRU (CAD CRU), the RCMP Police Dog Services and the RCMP Community Response Team.

The 41 year male with serious injuries was air lifted by STARS to hospital and is now listed in stable condition.   The other man was transported to hospital but has since been discharged.

Police determined that Jeremy Adams and Nelson Saulteaux were responsible for the shooting as well as the assault.   Both men were eventually located and were  safely arrested.

Adams, a 35-years-old resident of Paul Band First Nation, was arrested and charged with:

  • Attempted murder;
  • Forceable confinement (x2);
  • Aggravated assault;
  • Assault:
  • Unlawful discharge of a firearm;
  • Being an occupant of a motor vehicle in which he knew that there was at that time a firearm;
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm;
  • Possess a firearm for a dangerous purpose;
  • Fail to comply with a release order (x3);
  • Breach of weapon prohibition order (x4).

Adams was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded in custody with their next court date set for Feb. 26, 2025, to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Stony Plain.

Saulteaux, a 41-years-old residence of Paul Band First Nation, was arrested and charged with:

  • Forceable confinement (x2);
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Aggravated assault;
  • Assault with a weapon;
  • Being an occupant of a motor vehicle in which he knew that there was at that time a firearm;
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm (x3);
  • Possess a firearm for a dangerous purpose;
  • Fail to comply with an Undertaking (x3).

Saulteaux was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded in custody with their next court date set for Feb. 26, 2025, to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Stony Plain.
